Human Development Index, Challenges and Its Value for Islamic Republic of Iran at 2011

Improvement in human development is determined by the capacity of knowledge attainment, access to high living standards and enjoyment of healthy and long life expectancy. Education, life expectancy and gross national income per capita indices are the components of human development index. Until 2010, human development index had been arithmetic mean of education, life expectancy and domestic production per capita (PPP) indices. In 2011, human development report calculation procedure changed. In the new procedure, geometric mean of the three indices were replaced by the arithmetic mean in the old one, education index in the new procedure is composite index of mean years of schooling in population 25+ and expected years of schooling index, and GDP per capita (PPP) has been replaced by GNP per capita (PPP). In this article, the changes in the procedure of human development calculation and its components are explained and the index is calculated for the year 1990.
