Tourism and Its Role in Diversifying the Rural Economy

Tourism is one of the economic approaches that can help rural development along with other economic sectors and improve the resilience of rural areas in facing economic pressures. In this research, the aim is to identify the role and effects of tourism in the diversification of the rural economy and to contribute to this issue. The research method is descriptive-analytical and based on field data. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used for data analysis. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire as well as an interview. The validity of the questionnaire was confirmed through elites and the reliability was also confirmed with Cronbach's coefficient equal to 0.79. The results of the interview part of the research using content analysis showed that 20 indicators were discovered as the effects of tourism in diversifying the rural economy. In order to validate the results of the qualitative part, structural equation modeling and confirmatory factor analysis were used. The results of this section showed that the known effects can explain 76% of the changes in the diversification of the rural economy. According to the results of the model, tourism has the greatest impact on the diversification of the rural economy in the form of creating job opportunities with an explanation of 0.87; The reduction of the village's dependence on the agricultural sector with an explanation of 0.81 and the stimulus of investment, especially the private sector, with an explanation of 0.80.
