Comparison of Measurement Error Estimation Methods in Household Censuses; Advantages and Disadvantages

The issue of types of errors, especially non-sampling errors, is of great importance in official statistics. In the meantime, the measurement error, defined as the difference between the actual value and the reported value, faces its complexities and problems. In household censuses, questionnaire questions are asked and reported for each member or household. Hence, the estimation of measurement error, especially in the case of sensitive questions such as income, is still the subject of many studies and research in the field of official statistics. In this article, while classifying and naming various methods that have been proposed to estimate the measurement error, the advantages and disadvantages of each method have been presented from the authors' point of view, and finally, despite the progress and development that can be seen in the field of using administrative data, the method of investigation is still Internal consistency based on statistical models in terms of different criteria is suggested as a recommended method. Of course, depending on the available information and specific goals, using a combination of methods also has its uses.
